It all depends on whom you talk with or which product you're talking about. Case in point. Cisco CSS refers to load-balancing at the application layer to be L5 while the Cisco ACE (Application Content Engine) calls it L7.
They're both the same. The L5 term uses the TCP model as its reference while L7 uses the OSI model. Both refer to the application layer. See OSI and TCP differences.
